答案：The system is a list of choices that are available in the grammar of a language. For example, the number system in English has two choices: singular and plural. Systemic grammar aims to explain the internal relation in language as a system network, or meaning potential. And this network consists of subsystems from which language users make choices.
There are six major characteristics of systemic grammar:（systemic grammar differs from other linguistic theory in the following aspects）
1.It attached great importance to the sociological aspects of language
2.It views language as a form of doing rather than a form of knowing. It distinguishes linguistic behavior potential from actual linguistic behavior
3.It gives a relatively high priority to description of the characteristics of particular languages and particular varieties of languages
4.It explains a number of aspects of language in terms of clines
5.It seeks verification of its hypothesis by means of observation from texts and of statistical techniques
6.It takes category of the system as its center
